Neal Strathman is a retired 22-year Veteran of the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserves whose appreciation for whiskey (American and Irish) and whisky (Scottish, Canadian, and Japanese) began while stationed near Seattle early in his military career. His interest grew through years of exploring a wide variety of Scotches, ryes, Irish whiskeys, and bourbons, developing an appreciation for the craftsmanship and traditions behind each style.

During his service in the Navy Reserves, Neal was deployed to Japan several times in support of radiation surveys following the Fukushima reactor accident and shipyard maintenance operations. While there, he discovered that exceptional whisky can be found anywhere quality, care, and craftsmanship are valued.

Today, Neal enjoys sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with others, helping participants explore the history, traditions, and unique characteristics that make each whiskey and whisky distinctive.
